The Tudor Kitchen is the third incarnation of my Tudor symbol tiles. I was commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces to lead a series of workshops for their community engagement programme in 2009 as part of the 500 year anniversary of King Henry VIII. The designs for the Tudor symbols I created were inspired by Hampton Court Palace and Gardens, I brought the plaster moulds to the palace, which the participants used to press mould the Tudor symbols, and then painted with underglazes. The tiles were applied to planters in the Tiltyard Café Courtyard. Subsequently, I made a Tudor wall relief for a private garden in Lewes, for which I made square moulds using the same designs, plus many new designs. The Tudor kitchen is tiled with leftover tiles from the Lewes wall piece.
