Çanakkale Biennial

I am thrilled to have been commissioned to make a piece of site specific public art for the 10th International Çanakkale Biennial in Turkey which will have a special focus on ceramics for the first time. Çanakkale is a city known for ceramics and offers a rich context both in terms of traditional workshops, industry, and contemporary art.

I have been invited to make a new piece of work for a public space in response to the flora of Çanakkale (both endemic plant species of the region and botanical motifs found in traditional Çanakkale ceramics).

I will be undertaking a residency in April to research the commission and collaborating with KALE ceramics factory who will manufacture the work. During this visit I will do a presentation of my work. In August I will spend time with the tile factory to plan the fabrication of the work and I will participate in an international ceramic symposium organised by Çanakkale University Ceramic Research Centre. The project has been funded by Connections Through Culture, British Council.

The public opening and display of the work at the opening of the 10th Çanakkale Biennial will take place in October 2026. More details to follow.
